The best time to rent a boat in Alicante depends on what you're after: sun-soaked parties, peaceful getaways at lower prices, or the perfect balance of both. With over 300 sunny days a year and a mild Mediterranean climate, the Costa Blanca allows sailing practically year-round. But not every month offers the same experience.
In this guide, we break down month by month what it's like to sail in Alicante, what prices to expect each season, and which events and perks make each period unique. Whether you're thinking of renting a boat in Alicante for a birthday, a hen do, a couple's escape, or simply a different kind of day out with friends, you'll find everything you need to pick the perfect date.
High season: June, July and August — peak Mediterranean experience
Summer is by far the most popular time to sail in Alicante. Water temperatures rise above 25 °C, the sun shines from 7 a.m. until well past 9 p.m., and the coastal atmosphere is buzzing with energy.
Weather and sailing conditions:
- Air temperature: 28–35 °C
- Water temperature: 24–27 °C
- Prevailing winds: gentle to moderate easterly (10–15 knots)
- Daylight hours: 14–15 hours
- Generally calm seas, ideal for groups with no sailing experience

What can you do? The long days allow 8- and 11-hour trips that include a crossing to Tabarca, anchoring in hidden coves, snorkelling in crystal-clear waters, and lunch at a local restaurant. If you prefer something shorter, 4-hour morning or afternoon outings are perfect for exploring the coves near the harbour — Postiguet, Almadraba, and Playa de San Juan.
The highlight of the Alicante summer is the Hogueras de San Juan festival (20–24 June). Watching the fireworks competition from a yacht anchored off Postiguet beach is an experience you won't find anywhere else in the Mediterranean. High season prices (June–August 2026):
| Duration | Price (up to 10 people) |
|---|---|
| 4 hours (half day) | €600 |
| 6 hours | €700 |
| 8 hours (full day) | €950 |
| 11 hours | €1,070 |
| Sunset (2h) | €350 |
| Hogueras Fireworks (3h) | €500 |
All prices include skipper, fuel, unlimited drinks (water, Coca-Cola, beer, tinto de verano, ice), paddle surf and snorkel gear.
Tip: during high season, book at least 2–3 weeks in advance. Weekends in July and August fill up fast, especially for full-day outings. Check our updated boat rental prices in Alicante for a full comparison.
Mid season: April, May, September and October — the best-kept secret
If we could recommend just one period to sail in Alicante, this would be it. Mid season combines good weather, lower prices, and above all, peace and quiet. The coves are less crowded, the sea has a special calm, and the evening light is spectacular.

Spring (April–May): the season awakens
Spring in Alicante is a treat for the senses. Temperatures rise fast: April already hits 20–24 °C, and by May the thermometer hovers around 25–28 °C. The water is still fresh (18–22 °C) but perfectly pleasant for swimming from mid-May onwards.
- Wind: more variable than summer, with calm westerly days ideal for sailing
- Key advantage: everything is yours. The coves, the routes, the anchorages — without the crowds
- Ideal for: couples, romantic getaways, relaxed sailing trips, sunset boat trips off the Alicante coast
Autumn (September–October): the golden month of sailing
September is, for many local sailors, the best month of the year to go out on the water in Alicante. The sea retains all the warmth accumulated over summer (24–26 °C), air temperatures are pleasant (25–30 °C), and winds are more stable than in peak August.
For a deeper look at why September is so special, read our complete guide to sailing in Alicante in September.
October remains excellent. Temperatures drop slightly, but the sea is still warm and the coast recovers that calm you only feel off-season. It's the last ideal month for a full-day boat trip to Tabarca without excessive heat or overcrowding.
Mid season prices (April, May, September, October 2026):
| Duration | Price (up to 10 people) |
|---|---|
| 4 hours (half day) | €550 |
| 6 hours | €650 |
| 8 hours (full day) | €850 |
| 11 hours | €1,020 |
| Sunset (2h) | €300 |
Compared to high season, the difference is between €50 and €100 per outing. And the experience is often even better: more tranquillity, better underwater visibility for snorkelling, and postcard-perfect sunsets.
Low season: November and December — is winter sailing worth it?
Low season in Alicante isn't like northern Europe. November and December still offer sunny days with temperatures of 15–20 °C (well above the continental average). Water drops to 16–18 °C, so it's no longer swimming season, but it's perfect for sailing under canvas, enjoying the coast from on deck, and having a more intimate experience.
Who sails in winter? Groups looking for something different: original birthday celebrations, corporate team-building activities, coastal photography at dawn, or simply an exclusive escape where the sea is all yours. It's also a fantastic time for pure sailing enthusiasts: the wind conditions are more technical and offer a more authentic experience for those who enjoy the art of sailing.
The winter light in Alicante has a special quality: more golden, more horizontal, perfect for photography and for enjoying the coastline without rush. Early sunsets (around 18:00) allow interesting combinations like a half-day outing followed by tapas at the harbour.
Low season prices (November–December 2026):
| Duration | Price (up to 10 people) |
|---|---|
| 4 hours (half day) | €450 |
| 6 hours | €550 |
| 8 hours (full day) | €690 |
| 11 hours | €850 |
These are the lowest prices of the year. A full 8-hour day costs €690, compared to €950 in high season — nearly 30% less.
January, February and March: winter pause
From January to March, boat rental in Alicante is generally paused. Weather conditions are less stable (westerly gusts, possible rain, swell) and water temperatures drop to 13–15 °C. While there are occasional sunny, calm days, this isn't the recommended period for a leisure sailing experience.
If you're interested in sailing during this time for specific reasons (regattas, crossings, training), get in touch directly to check availability.
