Alicante has something few Mediterranean cities can match: over 300 days of sunshine, a calm sea for most of the year and a coastline packed with coves, islands and hidden spots you can only discover from the water. If you're looking for a boat excursion from Alicante, this guide tells you exactly what to expect on each route depending on the hours you choose, the destinations you can reach and everything you need to know before boarding.

Whether it's your first time on a boat or you've sailed before: every trip is different because the route is always determined by the wind and the conditions of the day. What is certain is that you'll come back wanting more.

Boat excursions from Alicante: options by duration

Not all excursions are the same. The length of the trip determines how far you can go, how many stops you make and what kind of experience you take away. Here are the real options, no fluff.

Schedule: 10:00–14:00 (morning) or 15:00–19:00 (afternoon)

Four hours are perfect for a first taste of Alicante's sea. You depart from the Real Club de Regatas harbour, right in the city centre, and within minutes you're sailing past Postiguet beach with the Castle of Santa Bárbara behind you.

The half-day route covers the coves closest to the harbour: Postiguet, Almadraba and Playa de San Juan. There's plenty of time to anchor at one or two stops, swim in crystal-clear waters, try the paddle board, go snorkelling and enjoy the open bar while the sun warms the deck.

What it does NOT include: you cannot reach Tabarca in 4 hours. The island is too far to visit, enjoy and return comfortably. If Tabarca is your goal, you need at least 8 hours.

The afternoon option (15:00–19:00) is the favourite in high season because the late-afternoon light over the Mediterranean is spectacular.

6-hour excursion — More coastline and sunset included

Schedule: 15:00–21:00

Six hours let you explore more of the coast. The route passes through the same nearby coves — Postiguet, Almadraba, San Juan — but with more time at each stop and the possibility of reaching Cala Figuera if conditions allow.

What makes this option special is the end of the day: you finish sailing with the sunset as your backdrop. Watching the sun drop into the Mediterranean from the deck of a sailboat is one of those experiences that stays with you.

Like the 4-hour trip, you still can't reach Tabarca in 6 hours. But if what you want is more swimming time, paddle surfing and a postcard sunset, this is your format.

Full-day boat trip (8 hours) — The premium experience with Tabarca

Schedule: 11:00–19:00

This is the most complete excursion you can do from Alicante. With 8 hours on board you have time to sail to the island of Tabarca, the only inhabited island in the Valencia region and home to one of Spain's first marine reserves.

The typical route: you leave the harbour, sail south along the coast, arrive at Tabarca for snorkelling in incredibly clear waters and have lunch at a restaurant on the island (we handle the booking). Then a relaxed return with a stop at a cove along the way.

Tabarca deserves its own article — in fact, we have a complete guide to a Tabarca boat excursion where we tell you everything about the island, the marine reserve and what to expect.

11-hour excursion — The nautical marathon

Schedule: 11:00–22:00

For those who want to squeeze every last drop out of the day. Tabarca, coves, paddle boarding, snorkelling, lunch on the island, unlimited open bar and finishing by watching the sunset from the water. It's the longest and most complete experience we offer — a full day living at sea.

The difference from the 8-hour trip isn't just the extra time: it's the pace. Everything is more relaxed, there are more swims, more stops and the return to port with the last light of the day has something magical about it.

Sunset (2 hours) — Evening sail

Schedule: 20:00–22:00

Two hours sailing through the Postiguet area at sunset. The perfect option as a pre-dinner plan, for a special occasion or simply to unwind after a day at the beach. Open bar included, views of the illuminated Castle of Santa Bárbara and an atmosphere that no rooftop bar can match.

Destinations you can discover on a boat excursion from Alicante

Alicante's coast has destinations for every taste. Which ones you can reach depends on the hours you choose and, always, on the day's conditions.

Coves near the harbour (4h and 6h)

  • Postiguet Beach: right below the Castle of Santa Bárbara. Iconic view of Alicante from the sea.
  • Almadraba: calm waters and a rocky seabed perfect for snorkelling.
  • Playa de San Juan: Alicante's longest beach, with white sand and shallow waters ideal for swimming.
  • Cabo de las Huertas: hidden coves between rocks with turquoise waters. One of the favourite spots to anchor.

If you want to explore more about the coves accessible by sailboat, we have a guide to the best coves near Alicante with photos and detailed routes.

Island of Tabarca (8h and 11h)

The crown jewel. Tabarca is about 11 nautical miles from Alicante harbour and its marine reserve is a snorkelling paradise: posidonia meadows, grouper, sea bream, starfish and visibility that sometimes exceeds 15 metres.

Beyond swimming and snorkelling, the island has a charming village, 18th-century walls and restaurants where you can eat the best caldero (traditional fish rice) in the area. We book the table so you don't have to worry about anything.

Multi-day sailing destinations

If you're looking for something more ambitious, Alicante is also a departure point for 2 to 5-day sailing trips to Ibiza, Formentera, the Mar Menor or the full Costa Blanca (Benidorm, Calpe, Altea, Denia). A different story, a different budget, an equally memorable experience.

What's included in every boat excursion

Something that always surprises our clients is that the price you see is the final price. No hidden extras:

  • Professional skipper — handles the sailing, the stops and the anchoring. You just enjoy
  • Fuel — included
  • Unlimited open bar — water, Coca-Cola, beer, tinto de verano and ice throughout the trip
  • Paddle board — for the cove stops
  • Snorkelling gear — especially useful if you're heading to Tabarca or Cabo de las Huertas
  • Private boat — maximum 12 people, total exclusivity

The boat is the Peggy, a 19-metre Centurion 61 sailboat — the largest charter sailboat in Alicante. It has 3 bathrooms, a full kitchen and plenty of space for 12 people to be comfortable all day.

If you want to know more about why having a skipper makes all the difference, we explain it in detail in why hiring a boat with a skipper is the best decision.

Tips for your boat excursion in Alicante

  • Book in advance. In high season (June–August) weekends fill up fast. Three weeks' notice is ideal.
  • Sunscreen, towel and a hat. The sun at sea hits twice as hard. Don't underestimate the water's reflection.
  • No black-soled shoes. To avoid marking the deck. Flip-flops or barefoot.
  • Cold food if you want to bring some. Charcuterie boards, fruit, snacks. On 8h+ trips lunch is at a restaurant on Tabarca.
  • Cancellation insurance. For €50 you can cancel at any time without losing your deposit. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we cancel at no cost.
  • If someone gets seasick: the sailboat is far less prone to causing motion sickness than motorboats. Dramamine 30 minutes before boarding if someone is sensitive.
